Avantes AvaRaman system is an affordable, fiber optic based Raman spectrometer for industrial and research applications. The AvaRaman spectrometer can be configured for measurements inside or outside of a laser safe sampling chamber. The system is controlled via Windows-based AvaSoft Raman with a USB PC interface

The raman technique is used to study vibrational modes in a system. It relies on inelastic scattering, or Raman scattering of monochromatic light, usually from a laser in the visible, near infrared or near ultraviolet range.
The laser light interacts with photons, resulting in the energy of the laser photons being shifted up or down. The figure to the right shows the Stokes and Anti-Stokes lines which can be measured with Raman spectroscopy. In general the Stokes lines are preferred/used since they are more intense.
TheRaman technique is rapidly being adopted as an analytical technique for a number of reasons including:
* No sample preparation is required
* Spectral fingerprints of molecules are more distinctive than with NIR
* The technique can be applied to very small samples
* Raman spectra can be measured through quartz, glass, plastic (non contact)
* The technique can be used for inline analysis particularly when using fiber optics
* Not necessary to take reference spectra

The AvaRaman system consists of a laser diode, an AvaSpec 2048 CCD-array spectrometer and an expanded range of fiber optic probes. The AvaRaman System is available for multiple Raman wavelengths can be equipped with a USB2 interface. The USB2 Raman system with TE Cooling has the advantage of a thermo-regulated cooled CCD detector.
All AvaRaman systems come with AvaSoft-Raman software (see software section). More specific Panorama-PRO software is available (see software section) for Raman interpretation and functional group assignment. The AvaRaman System is optimized for maximum sensitivity. The maximum integration time is 60 seconds.
The AvaRaman is especially useful for analysis, such as reaction monitoring, product identification, remote sensing, and the characterization of highly scattering particulate matter in aqueous solutions, gels and other media.
The AvaRaman System is also available with different Laser types other than the standard 785nm, such as Ar-Ion 514 nm, solid-state 50 or 100 mW green (532 nm) lasers or HeNe lasers 633nm.
