Our latest in-house experiment invites you to join us in employing Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to scrutinize the elemental makeup of diverse rock samples. Meteorites, those celestial messengers that have intrigued humanity for eons, have profoundly impacted our planet’s history and evolution. From potential contributions to the Moon’s formation to pivotal roles in mass extinctions, meteorites have left an indelible mark on Earth. However, distinguishing true meteorites from “meteor-wrongs” can be an intimidating task.
In this experiment, we harness the power of LIBS, a cutting-edge atomic emission spectroscopy technique, to discern the composition of select meteorite and terrestrial rock samples. By comparing spectral signatures and identifying elemental peaks, we aim to shed light on the origins of these enigmatic rocks. This voyage of discovery is made possible through a meticulously designed experimental setup featuring advanced spectrometers and an innovative laser system. Join us in uncovering the secrets of the cosmos, one spectrum at a time.
