High-resolution optical spectroscopy is essential in:

  • LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy)
  • Raman spectroscopy
  • Plasma diagnostics
  • Atomic emission spectroscopy
  • Material characterization

Conventional spectrometers typically use:

  • Fixed CCD or CMOS detector arrays
  • Fixed spectral windows
  • Limited spectral coverage per acquisition

Limitations include:

  • Trade-off between spectral resolution and spectral range
  • Limited flexibility for different experimental requirements
  • Inefficient use of detector pixel area
  • Inability to zoom into specific narrow spectral regions with maximum resolution

A spectrometer with a movable detector system allows:

  • Adjustable spectral window selection
  • Optimized resolution in specific wavelength ranges
  • Extended effective spectral coverage
  • Higher flexibility for research and industrial applications

Objective
To design, build, and validate a:

  1. High-resolution spectrometer system
  2. Mechanically movable detector stage
  3. Precision wavelength scanning mechanism
  4. Software-controlled positioning and spectral stitching system

The system shall allow precise selection of spectral regions while maintaining high resolving power.

  • Applied Physics
  •  Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
