Assignment
End-of-life tyres (ELTs) represent a significant environmental challenge but also a valuable resource for material recovery. Efficient recycling requires:
- Reliable identification of elemental composition
- Detection of additives (Zn, Si, S, Ca, Mg, Al, etc.)
- Monitoring of fillers (silica, carbon black)
- Quality control of recycled rubber fractions
Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) offers:
- Rapid multi-element detection
- Minimal sample preparation
- Potential for inline industrial monitoring
- Capability to analyze solid, heterogeneous materials
However, tyre materials are complex composites consisting of:
- Natural and synthetic rubber
- Carbon black
- Silica fillers
- ZnO and sulfur curing systems
- Metallic reinforcements
- Various inorganic additives
To implement LIBS in recycling processes, a quantitative correlation must be established between:
- Well-defined model compounds
- Real heterogeneous tyre samples
Objective
To develop and validate a LIBS-based analytical method capable of:
- Identifying key elements in tyre materials
- Establishing calibration curves using model compounds
- Correlating LIBS signals between model systems and real tyre samples
- Assessing feasibility for recycling process monitoring
We are looking for:
We are looking for an enthusiastic HBO or WO student with a background in:
- Sustainable Energy technology
- Applied Physics
- Chemical Science & Engineering
We offer:
- A good compensation per month
- Travel reimbursement of €0,23 per km (when traveling by car)
- Informal work atmosphere, short lines of communication
- Working in a high-tech environment
